What's Happening at
RightHand Technologies

The past five years have been very exciting for us at RightHand Technologies. Despite the worse economy the country has seen since The Great Depression, we tripled in size by adding new markets—aerospace and defense—to the industries we serve, and by increasing our customer base to include manufacturers of equipment solutions for military, industrial and commercial aviation applications. In the last 18 months alone, we closed several new opportunities for in-flight entertainment and cabin-management systems, and completed a military project for a ruggedized handheld device. We also increased the size of our engineering staff, added a West Coast sales office and hired a West Coast sales person. To top it all off, we are planning to move into a new facility in Chicago by early summer. Read more about the development of the ruggedized handheld device, the new West Coast sales person and the new facility below.

Developing Software and a Custom Board for a Ruggedized Military Handheld Device

RightHand Technologies was hired by a leading manufacturer of ruggedized computer, server, portable and network peripheral equipment solutions for military, industrial and commercial aviation applications to help with the design of a ruggedized personal digital assistant (RPDA). RightHand’s job was to write the software and design the electronics for the device. To be mission ready, the RPDA faced some rigorous size, weight and power restrictions—known as SWaP in the military. In addition, the extensive feature list included long battery life, charging circuitry that would charge two batteries, hot-swapping of the main battery pack, support of high-current expansion modules and support for three different operating systems. In addition, the RPDA had to pass difficult-to-achieve Department of Defense MIL-STD certification testing.

Learn how RightHand engineers used their extensive experience in developing complex embedded electronics to produce creative solutions and conquer the many challenges they faced with this product, and delivered the software and custom-designed board that met all aspects of the client’s requirements and obtained the required MIL-STD certifications
